China’s five major innovative pesticides being industrialized

Professor Yang Guangfu, the Assistant to President, Central China Normal University, introduced Chinese researchers’ independent innovation of five novel compounds, which are now under industrialization, in cooperation with industry players, at the recently held 11th Crop Protection International Forum. 1. Benzothiostrobin Benzothiostrobin is a strobilurin fungicide, with testing code Y5247, which has been granted patent rights in China and US. The product is of broad fungicidal spectrum, being highly effective in the control of powdery mildew, downy mildew, brown spot, anthracnose and scab. Its activity is as good as azoxystrobin per-hectare dosage, and cost of production is lower than azoxystrobin. Benzothiostrobin has been delegated to Jiangsu Sevencontinent Green Chemical Ltd. for the purpose of industrialization.
2. Two novel SDHI compounds Y13149 and Y12196 The two novel SDHI compounds, with testing codes Y13149 and Y12196, were discovered using PFVS method. Both of these are systemic, water flushing resistant and require less quantity for application. So far, the two products have been delegated to Beijing Yoloo Bio-Technology Ltd. for the purpose of industrialization, and are now under the process of registration.

3. Two new HPPD inhibitor compounds The two HPPD inhibitor compounds 1 and 2 are of quinazoline skeleton, which have been granted Chinese patent rights and international PCT patent rights. The international patent rights have been filed in EU, US, India, Argentina, Mexico and Nigeria. These two compounds are of broad herbicidal spectrum, being highly effective in the control of a large variety of broadleaf weed and grassy weed. The two products have an excellent and fast-acting effect in the control of green bristle grass. Compound 1 has been delegated to Shandong Cynda Chemical Ltd. for the purpose of industrialization, and registration has been initiated.

4. Other Candidate Compounds Recently, Central China Normal University has discovered two candidate fungicides (Y14078 and Y14079), which are of simple structure and are very effective in the control of downy mildew. The two fungicides have a novel mechanism of action, being different from those of conventional fungicides. The two products have special effect against downy mildew. Their activity is as good as amisulbrom but is noticeably superior to cyazofamid, being very effective in the control of bacterial diseases like rice bacterial leaf blight. The cost of raw material is less than 100,000 yuan/ton. So far, the two fungicidal compounds have been filed for patent authorization.
